Below are rough installation/configuration notes for the current version of EAC (1.3). Many of these settings are changable such as file naming convention. Be sure to get the tags right though. See the Compression Options settings at the end. Of course there is an app that will tell you when you get the important ones wrong.

Download the lastest EAC here:

Choose Components dialog

-> uncheck GD3 Metadata Plugin   [trialware]

-> uncheck CDRDAO   [if not burning audio discs]

*First launch*

-> Welcome to the EAC setup wizard !
   -> click Next

-> CD-ROM Selection dialog
   (uncheck any virtual drives)
  -> click Next

Extraction Preferences dialog
-> keep "I prefer to have accurate results"
-> click Next

Feature detection dialog
-> click Next

... Encoder Introduction

Encoder Selection dialog
-> choose FLAC, click Next

FLAC Configuration dialog
-> click Next

freedb Configuration
-> leave email address blank for now, click Next

Filename Configuration dialog
-> accept Leave naming scheme unchanged, click Next

Done dialog
-> choose I am an expert, click Next

*Standard configuration*

EAC menu -> EAC options
-> Extraction tab
   -> accept checked Synchronize between tracks
   -> check No use of null samples for CRC calculations [not present in EAC 1.0+]
   -> accept unchecked Delete leading and trailing silent block
   -> Error recovery quality -> choose High
-> Tools tab
   -> check Create .m3u playlist, uncheck Write m3u playlist as UTF8 file
   -> check Automatically write status report after extraction
   -> check Append checksum to status report
-> Normalize tab
   -> accept unchecked Normalize
-> Filename tab
   -> Naming scheme -> %albumartist% - %year% - %albumtitle%\%tracknr2% - %title%
   -> check Use various artist naming scheme
   -> (Various) - %year% - %albumtitle%\%tracknr2% - %artist% - %title%
-> Directories tab
   choose Use this directory, input e.g. C:\Rips
-> General tab -> check Create log files always in english language

EAC menu -> Drive Options
-> Extraction Method tab
   -> Accept Secure mode
      -> accept checked Drive has 'Accurate Stream' feature
      -> check Drive caches audio data
      -> accept unchecked Drive is capable of retrieving C2 error information
-> Offset / Speed tab
   -> check Use AccurateRip with this drive [or may already be configured and disabled]

EAC menu -> Compression Options
-> External Compression tab
   -> check Use external program
   -> Parameter passing scheme -> choose User Defined Encoder
   -> Use file extension -> input .flac
   -> Program -> input full path to flac.exe
   -> Additional command-line options -> input
-8 -V -T "ARTIST=%artist%" -T "TITLE=%title%" -T "ALBUM=%albumtitle%" -T "DATE=%year%" -T "TRACKNUMBER=%tracknr1%" -T "GENRE=%genre%" %source% -o %dest%
   -> uncheck Add ID3 tag
